MAI Carbon

As a partner of MAI Carbon...

  • you participate in establishing a global centre for fiberreinforced plastics.
  • you are integrated into a network in which your organization can realize research projects in the field of fibercomposite materials, which are required and realizable only with difficulty.
  • you have the possibility to cooperate with the companies of most repute and revenue turnover, from the sectors involving automobile manufacture, aerospace travel, as well as mechanical engineering with ongoing R&D projects. In this way, you can gain entry to these sectors, or secure your commitments in them.

Whether it involves small, medium-sized or large-scale companies, manufacturing departments or service providers, colleges or chairs: Companies and investigation facilities from the region Munich, Augsburg and Ingolstadt, which are active in the field of carbon fiber reinforced plastics and who wish to participate in the development of this region to a European Leading-Edge Cluster center for fibercomposite technologies, can as MAI Carbon partners, make a contribution to the success of the region and the technology.

Of course MAI Carbon supports and coordinates all projects on-going in the cluster and, in addition, takes care of the strategic cluster controlling, monitoring and reporting to the projecting parties and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) as also about Lobbying and Public Relations. At central focus in the cluster strategy is the further development of innovative processes, in the sense of sustainability.

Admission criteria

The MAI Carbon Board of Management decides on the admission of new partners in the MAI Carbon department** using the following guidelines:

  1. A partner in the MAI region can be included as a partner in the Leading-Edge Cluster, if they can contribute (e.g. through participation in working groups and projects) to achieving the Leading-Edge Cluster targets.
  2. A partner outside of the MAI region can be recorded as an entitled funding partner in the Leading-Edge Cluster, if they can contribute with their skills and participation (e.g. in working groups and projects) to achieving the Leading-Edge Cluster goals and if these skills are not already provided by a regional partner in the cluster. This type of partner retains its membership and eligibility even if at a later time a partner is added (as per item 1) with the same skill set from the region in the department.
  3. A partner outside of the MAI region can be integrated into the Leading-Edge Cluster as a partner not eligible for funding, if they contribute with their skills and active participation (e.g. working groups and projects) to achieving the Leading-Edge Cluster goals*.

*) The cluster goals come from the strategy document in its current version.

**) The admission to the MAI Carbon Board of Management requires admission to the association of Carbon Composites e.V.
