Augsburg. In the framework of its task spectrum within the Leading-Edge Cluster, MAI Carbon issued invitations to its annual Project forum in its new premises in the Technology Centre Augsburg (TCA). Over the course of the two days, all participants, the Project sponsors and the members of Carbon Composites received a comprehensive, complete overview into the work involved in the MAI Carbon Projects. Over 100 interested parties were informed about the results of more than 30 Projects, which were presented, partly, in parallel presentations. The evening program consisted of a guided tour through the State Textile and Industry Museum in Augsburg “tim” where the special exhibition, “Carbon, Material of the Future” was on view. MAI Carbon made a major contribution to the contents of this exhibition.
New tasks and election of the board
On the second day of the event, the annual General assembly of the MAI Carbon department took place, which in this year was not only concerned with the new elections of the board but also with a change to the Articles of Association. This enabled the foundation to be laid for a long term consolidation of the Leading-Edge Cluster within the Carbon Composites e.V. (CCeV). In addition to the tasks which have been taken over during the past few years, now MAI Carbon will represent the entire region of Bavaria within the CCeV. The focal points will be: Networking, supporting business developments of our partners, further development of fiber reinforced synthetic fibers, public relations for the material and international visualisation as well as maintaining their efforts in support for training and further education measures. “This step enables us to guide the success of the Leading-Edge Cluster, as well as strengthen the long-term development of the fiber reinforced plastics sector“ emphasises Prof. Klaus Drechsler, Chairman of MAI Carbon.
The new board was elected after a second ballot and shall be comprised as follows for the next two years:
Prof. Klaus Drechsler (TUM/LCC) remains as Chairman. Prof. Siegfried Horn (Uni Augsburg), Ralph Hufschmied (Hufschmied), as well as Dr. Reinald Pfau (Premium Aerotec) were re-elected to their posts. Newly elected was Roland Müller (Airbus Helicopters), as the successor to Markus Feiler, who has changed companies. On the same day five further positions were filled on the board: Matthias Wendt (innofocus), Dr. Joachim Starke (BMW), Dr. Andreas Erber (SGL), Monika Kreuzmann (ARRK/P+Z) as well as Dr. Lars Herbeck (Voith Composites). Department managing director Dr. Tjark von Reden summarises: “I am absolutely satisfied with the results. We have again a balanced mix of stakeholders from Industry, SMEs as well as Research and Development institutes. This will aid us in the implementation of our further plans.”
