Great interest shown in cooperation: Delegation from South Korea visit leading edge cluster MAI Carbon

Augsburg / Gumi - South Korea

An almost 30 strong delegation from South Korea came to Augsburg to visit the leading edge cluster MAI Carbon, an initiative of Carbon Composites e.V. (CCeV). The highlight of the event was the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MAI Carbon and the City of Gumi.

The delegation had a very high profile make-up including the mayor of the City of Gumi, business leaders as well as leaders from the fields of research and development. The City of Gumi and its surrounding areas are home to leading electronic companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Display. In addition Toray Advanced Materials are investing strongly in the location at Gumi. The long-term goal is to build up and establish a Carbon Cluster in the coming years.

The delegation representatives were looking for a region, which has shown dynamic growth in the Carbon Composites field over a longer period,. Therefore the region Munich-Augsburg-Ingolstadt was of interest and in particular the leading edge cluster MAI Carbon, located in Augsburg. "MAI Carbon is an internationally visible `lighthouse' and a model Cluster in the area of fiber reinforced composites." according to Sven Blanck, who is responsible for the topic of internationalisation at MAI Carbon.

Alongside a mutual getting to know each other and a bilateral exchange there were two guided tours to institutions at DLR and Fraunhofer IGCV, both of which are located in the immediate vicinity of the Augsburg Innovationspark, on the programme. The culmination of the event was the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MAI Carbon and the City of Gumi with the aim of cooperation and intensive collaboration.
